    Neither iron nor manganese are considered dangerous, but high concentrations of these metals in water can create a bittersweet or astringent taste. The presence of iron in supplied water is undesirable due to the staining effect on laundry and porcelain. Manganese, in high concentrations, can produce corrosion and scaling in pipes, which is a serious industrial concern. The solution is the Hanna HI96742, a hand-held photometer to measure low range iron and manganese.  0 To 1.60 milligrams per liter (ppm) iron LR and 0 to 300micro g/L (ppm) manganese LR range. 0.01 milligrams per liter iron LR and 1micro g/L manganese LR resolution. +/-0.01 milligrams per liter +/-8 percent of reading iron LR and +/-2micro g/L +/-3 percent of reading manganese LR at 25 degree C accuracy. Tungsten lamp. Silicon photocell with narrow band interference filter at 525nm light detector. Auto-off: after ten minutes of non-use in measurement mode, after one hour of non-use in calibration mode with last reading reminder. Measures 7.6" length by 4.1" width by 2.7" height. 0 to 50 degree C (32 to 122 degree F); RH maximum 95 percent non-condensing environment. Adaptation of TPTZ method for iron LR and adaptation of the 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol PAN method for manganese LR.
