Refractometer for Testing Gas Treatment Chemicals

Testing initial amine or glycol concentration is essential to ensure optimal fluid properties.

Petrochemical plants, refineries, and others rely on amine gas scrubbing or sweetening to remove acid gasses, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The process most commonly depends on the use of water-soluble chemicals known as alkylamines, or simply amines. These amines include Diethanolamine (DEA), Monoethanolamine (MEA), Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), and Diglycolamine (DGA), frequently blended with certain additives. The process is intended to mitigate human health hazards, processing plant delays, pipeline damage, and environmental harm.

Likewise, natural gas processing plants use triethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, and tetraethylene glycol to eliminate water from natural gas. The process, known as glycol dehydration, depends on the glycol’s ability to act as a desiccant.  We carry that Refractometer as well.

EASY TO USE!

Just place a drop or two of your sample in the stainless-steel sample well and press a button. The custom-designed microprocessor delivers a nearly instantaneous readout of your sample concentration (%w/w). Nonlinear temperature compensation is automatic and insures that fluids tested between 0 and 50 °C (+32 to 122 °F) are measured accurately. 

These concentrations are easily read on the large dual-line LCD display, even in dim light. Digital readings remove the subjectivity associated with interpreting where a boundary line crosses tiny scale divisions. And, it is so easy to use! The user interface consists of two buttons, one to take readings and the other to step through various menu options. 

This unit is also Kinder Morgan Treating endorsed for use in monitoring their line of Amine Plants.
