- Real time clock
It is recommended to calibrate the instrument frequently, if high
accuracy is required.
The instrument should be re-calibrated:
• Whenever the pH electrode is replaced.
• At least once a week.
• After testing aggressive chemicals.
• When extreme accuracy is required.
• When the calibration time-out is expired (if feature is enabled).
The meter offers a choice of 7 memorized buffers (1.68, 4.01, 6.86,
7.01, 9.18, 10.01 and 12.45 pH) and two user defined values, C1
and C2 (see “Custom Buffer Selection” section on page 12 for details).
• Pour a small quantity of selected buffer solutions into clean beakers.
For accurate calibration use two beakers for each buffer solution, the
first one for rinsing the electrode and the second one for calibration.
• Remove the protective cap and rinse the electrode with some of
the buffer solution to be used for the first calibration point.
• Press the CAL key. The “CAL” and “ ” indicators will be
displayed. The secondary LCD will display buffer “7.01”. If a
different calibration buffer is desired (e.g. “6.86”), use the
ARROW keys to change the displayed value
• Submerse the electrode approximately 3 cm (1¼”) into the
solution, place the temperature probe as close as possible to the
electrode and stir gently.
• The LCD will flash “WAIT NOT
READY” for 12 seconds, then:
if the reading is not close to the
selected buffer, “WRONG “ and
“WRONG ” will blink alternatively;
if it is close to the selected buffer the
meter will advise the user with an audible signal (if enabled) when the reading becomes stable and
the display will change to “READY” and blinking “CFM”.
Features at a Glance
CAL Check Electrode Diagnostics - CAL Check™ monitors the condition of the pH electrode’s offset and slope characteristics. These characteristics are determined by the voltages generated in the calibration buffers. As part of the Cal Check feature the meter will display “clean” when the pH electrode needs to be cleaned.
One or Two-Point Calibration - Automatic calibration can be performed at 1 or 2 points using the 7 pre programmed buffers (pH 1.68, 4.01, 6.86, 7.01, 9.18, 10.01, and 12.45) and 2 custom buffers.
Calibration Time-out - A selectable interval from 0 (disabled) to 14 days can be set in which after the selected interval the meter will display “Cal Due”.
On-Screen Instructions - Clear and easy to use on-screen instructions take you through all of the steps in performing a calibration and taking measurements.
Durable Plastic Body pH Electrode - The HI9126 is supplied with the HI1230B PEI plastic body, double junction pH electrode that is gel filled. The PEI body offers excellent chemical resistance to many harsh chemicals. The double junction design helps minimize contamination of the inner reference cell which could cause precipitation of the Ag/AgCl electrolyte resulting in a clogged junction. The HI1230B is gel filled and requires no refill electrolyte solution to maintain.
Temperature Compensation - The HI9126 offers automatic or manual temperature compensation of pH measurements over a wide range from -20.0 to 120.0°C.
mV Mode - The HI9126 has a mV mode that can be used with a wide variety of ORP electrodes for monitoring oxidation reduction potentials.
Stability Indicator - The HI9126 features a stability indicator. An hourglass appears on the display when there is instability in the reading. The hourglass disappears once the reading has stabilized. At that time a reading should be taken or stored.
Measurement Recall - The HI9126 has a “MEM” button to store a reading. The reading can be recalled at anytime by pressing the memory recall “MR” button
Backlit LCD - The HI9126 has a display with a backlight for easy viewing of readings in poor lighting conditions.
Automatic Shut-off - The HI9126 has an adjustable auto-off feature. The meter can be set to turn itself off after 20 minutes to prevent accidental drainage of the batteries or it can be disabled so the user has to turn the meter off with the power button.
Battery Error Prevention System (BEPS) - The Battery Error Prevention System detects when the batteries become too weak to ensure reliable measurements.
